Mars Hill Academy's first year chess team of (pictured left to right, back row) Christopher Cunningham of Liberty Twp., Jeremiah Hoffman of Lebanon, Joshua Miller and Josiah Miller of Cincinnati, and Jonathan Yang of Mason excelled in the recent 17th Queen City Classic Chess Tournament. More than 700 students in grades K-9 competed in "rated" and "unrated" team and individual competitions.

Team Mars Hill took first place overall in the 7-9 grade unrated team competition. Joshua Miller also took first place in the 7-9 grade individual unrated competition with Christopher Cunningham earning fourth.

Other individual places were: John Calvin Miller of Cincinnati (pictured front row), third in grade 2 unrated competition; Jeremiah Hoffman, 27th and Josiah Miller, 28th in the unrated 7-9 competition.

MHA fifth-grader Jonathan Yang placed 14th in the 4-6 grade competition for players rated under 800 according to the U.S. Chess Federation.
