Logic (Grades 7-8)
Mars Hill Academy students in grades 7-8 are inquisitive about the world around them. As they embark on this time of young adulthood, they are prepared and eager — having built well-formed characters, strong personal values, knowledge, and skills in our grammar school. It is upon this framework that our teachers inspire students towards great achievement and deeper thinking.
Working with the natural inclinations of young teens and their desire to question, we train them how to question ideas effectively and intensely, yet with the love of Christ. Our classes are marked by ample discussion as students apply and hone their blossoming critical thinking skills, which are developed by our teachers in formal logic classes and every other subject. Each subject endeavors to develop something crucial in these students that will carry them through life: a well-trained mind. The curriculum is an array of thought-provoking, world-changing, challenging works of literature, philosophical queries, and Biblical engagement.
Logic students have a variety of arts and athletics offerings from which to choose, in addition to service and learship opportunities. Their studies are also enriched by unique traditions outside the classroom. Seventh graders enjoy a weekend camping adventure, and take a class trip to Space Camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. Eighth graders study and perform an adaptation of a Shakespeare play, and enjoy dancing, fellowship, and performances at the annual “Victorian Ball.” In ninth grade, MHA students begin to study Rhetoric.
