Mrs. Deborah Shehane

Grammar Science

Deborah Shehane grew up in Alabama with a love for animals, collecting dogs, cats, and horses as a child. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Microbiology from Auburn University. After graduation, she married a fellow Auburn alum whose career took them across the Midwest—living in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, Mississippi, and Ohio—until his passing in 2012.

Deb is the proud mother of five children and grandmother to eleven. Her family has deep roots at Mars Hill Academy: one grandchild is an MHA graduate, and five are current students.

A lifelong lover of God's creation, Deb is passionate about teaching science through the lens of Scripture. She sees the classroom as a place to explore the wonders of the natural world and give glory to the Creator.

In her free time, Deb enjoys reading, writing, studying, and watercolor painting. An animal enthusiast, she has trained several of her dogs for pet therapy. She is a member of Hope Church in Mason, Ohio, and is excited to share her love of learning and her faith with the Mars Hill community.
