Academic Performance
Performance in Class
Mars Hill Academy remains steadfast in our mission to provide an education that cultivates virtue, fosters curiosity,
and shapes the whole person in the likeness of Christ. We believe students need an education rooted in the enduring
values of truth, beauty, and goodness—ideals that are critically important in today’s complex world. We are
committed to developing lifelong learners who think critically, reason logically, write persuasively, and communicate
effectively. In partnership with families, MHA equips students with both academic excellence and the Christ-centered
character formation necessary to glorify God and serve others faithfully in college, careers, and life. Our graduates are
not only well-prepared academically, as reflected in national standardized test performance, but they also emerge as
thoughtful, articulate individuals who live with purpose and integrity under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Standardized Testing: Classic Learning Test
Mars Hill Academy utilizes the Classic Learning Test (CLT) series of standardized achievement
tests, administered annually to students in grades 3–12. We began phasing in the tests over
several years with full implementation for the 2023–24 school year.
Students in grades 3 through 6 take grade-level CLT assessments. Those in grades 7 and 8
take the CLT8; students in grades 9 and 10 take the CLT10; and juniors and seniors complete
the CLT. These assessments are well-aligned with Mars Hill Academy’s integrated, classical curriculum, which
emphasizes critical thinking, logic, and the study of enduring ideas and values.
Mars Hill Academy has been nationally recognized for its performance on the CLT. We were ranked first in the
nation for five consecutive years (2019–2023) and earned the top ranking on the CLT8 in 2024. In 2024, our school
placed fourth nationally on the CLT.
CLT3-8: Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning
are the two sections of the CLT grade-level tests
and are each scored on a 150-300 scale. The
composite percentile and stanine are
calculated from a student's Lexile and Quantile
measures compared to a national norm. The
stanine scale ranges from 1 to 9: 1-3, below
average; 4-6, average, and, 7-9, above average.
CLT10 and CLT:
The CLT10 and CLT are composed of three sections:
Verbal, Grammar/Writing, and Quantitative Reasoning
and are each scored on a 0-40 scale.
